| Stinky dog problem -- any advice? |
|
Our foster dog - Abeline -- is still in "adjustment" period, (we've only had her since Monday)
as has been our experience -- the "new" dogs usually have a bout of diarrhea due to diet change and stress -- it usually clears up in 1-2 weeks
the problem we are having with Abeline is her farts. They stink bad enough to gag a maggot. This may clear up once the diarrhea does -- but in the meantime -- any suggestions as to what I could add to her food to at least cut the smell?

| 1. In my experience with dogs and farts |
|
is to not feed them any chicken or chicken-based products. Any dog I have ever had would pass awful gas when I gave them chicken.

| 2. Try some acidophilus. It is an excellent system regulator. |

Available at any health food store. Atthis point 2-3 capsules in her food would be good. Cannot cause any harm. They do not cause constipation. They merely normalize. In fact they can be used to cure constipation as well. They are given when administering antibiotics to prevent diarrhea and can be used whenever there is a digestive problem without any ill effects.

They worked wonders for my sister's dobie who had the stinkiest farts ever. Another trick is to keep a book of matches near the dog, when she lets one loose, light a match, blow it out and wave it in the general area, it tends to counteract the smell. Good Luck, I lived with my sister and her dobie for 6 years, it wasn't fun.

| 7. Yeah those work but you shouldn't give them too many |
|
they can decrease absorption of food nutrients when given too frequently. Short term you should be ok though.

A little cottage cheese, buttermilk or yogurt has proved efficacious for controlling the green eye-waterers in this house.
