I would go to Peru in a heartbeat, and I doubt you could see it all in a life time. That particular area is rich in history and mystery.

We are talking about traveling to Sacred places, yet I have to wonder if maybe Sonoma shouldn't be on that list. Given everything I know about it and the nifty people that are drawn there, I have to think it must be a pretty spectacular place...

Do they take hitchhikers on those tours? :) I saw several that looked fascinating.

9. Actually, yes...Sedona is considered a sacred place

and I am SO blessed to live here.

The energies tend to get a *little* intense from time to time but the beauty of the place more than offsets it.. I live at the base of Thunder Mt and it feels like everything gets magnified as it bounces off.

6. I always wanted to go to Chaco Canyon and my husband

and I were very close, but they weren't open yet for tourists (early spring). We promised to come back but by then my husband was ailing so we never made it. Every native though that I talked to in Taos and Santa Fe had a great reverence for the ruins and called it a very spiritual place.

Glastonbury, Tintagel, Avebury - the old Celtic power places.

I lived in England for three years, but at that time I was unaware
of the traditions of Celtic Christianity, and that's something I'd

8. I'm not sure about specific sites.

Travel hasn't been part of my life this time around, so I haven't thought about it more specifically. A few regions pop into my head; I'd check out the possibilities in those places.

just make sure you walk around it & not climb it. I found that to be much more impressive & got more out of my stop there than my friends who climbed it.

10. So many....so little time....

Without doubt, India would be my first destination. There are so many holy sites in that country, it's almost unfair. There's Varanasi, Benares, too many temples to mention. In fact, we're going to the next Kumbha Mela in Nasik. They say that every Hindu must make a pilgrimage to the Kumbha, to assure their place in heaven.

Just to be on the safe side,we're going.

Also, there are rune stones to visit in Scandinavia. Stone Henge in England. Easter Island, with its strange statues.

Even Hawaii has some awesome Kahuna places that you can visit. We did....on Oahu a few years ago.

We went camping at a state park, right above Pearl Harbor. It's called A'Iea State Park, and there's a place in the middle of the park where they have a sacred spot. Local Hawaiians bring offerings (today!). At night, the place takes on a spooky other-worldliness. We walked back to the Kahuna spot in the middle of the night, carrying flashlights. We had heard stories about bright lights appearing at night.

18. I leave for Egypt on Monday...

...but this is a work trip. I spent all of January and part of February over there, in Cairo. This time I'll be near Alexandria.

If you're going to Egypt, the best time is winter. The weather is much more pleasant and the risk of malaria and other diseases lower. January in Cairo was just slightly cooler than Los Angeles, where I live. It's sometimes downright cold in the mornings, then warms up later. The air is much clearer, too.

The best way to see the Pyramids and other major attractions is to sign up for a tour. I'm normally against this sort of thing and like to run wild by myself in foreign spots. But if you try that at the Giza Plateau, you're going to be hustled like never before. Hundreds of locals will swarm around you, hawking everything from Cokes to papyrus scrolls.

These folks have been ripping off clueless tourists since the days of the Roman Empire, so believe me, you and I don't have a chance.

If you see the Giza Pyramids you will automatically see the Great Sphinx. He's parked directly in line with the pyramid built by Chephren (the second one built, and the only one with a bit of the original marble cladding left around the top).

Now the tricky part. Culturally, there are a couple of things you can do to annoy the Egyptians:

1. Ask about aliens building the Pyramids. One Egyptian tour guide complained that Americans are the ONLY people who ever ask this. The Egyptians take this as a direct insult to their culture. As they like to point out, there was an 800-year learning curve in building their pyramids--from the Step Pyramid of Pharoah Djoser, to the Bent and Red Pyramids of Sneferu, and finally to the big ones at Giza. So the aliens must have been slow learners.

By the way, one of the most beautiful sights I've ever seen: on a clear day, you can stand at the Step Pyramid in Saqqara and see all the way to the Giza Pyramids, on the other side of Cairo. (Or vice-versa). You're looking over the Red and Bent Pyramids in the same line-of-sight.

2. Ask about tomb curses. The ancient Egyptian religion didn't HAVE tomb curses. There was simply no such thing in the belief system. Howard Carter, the discoverer of Tut's tomb, got so tired of hearing this nonsense that he finally just refused to answer any questions about it at all.

If anyone wants more specific information about Egypt, feel free to PM me. Most of you probably know I'm a hard-core skeptic and atheist, but that doesn't influence my travel tips.

I know how hot it is here in Zona now, I imagine its pretty hot there in Cairo & Alexandria. Do they have humidity there or is it dry. (Hell, probably like PHX which used to be dry desert but now everyone has pools and they say its more humid)

I read Eileen Caddy's "Opening Doors Within" everyday. A friend of mine lived at Findhorn for a few years and brought the book back for me. He found life there to be very stark and basic and for him, depressing. It doesn't surprise me. I think sometimes expectations are too great. People are always expecting something on the outside to change them when it has to happen inside, no matter where you are.
After all...wherever you go, you take yourself with you. I'm sure I'd love Findhorn since I would take my peace and joy with me.
