| Frightening and weird dream |
|
In the dream my husband and I were driving down a 4 lane highway, the lane we were in was a left turn only lane a little further up so my husband started to speed up do get around an 18 wheeler on our right, right next to us. We were cut off by another pick up truck who was right behind the 18 wheeler, however he put the pedal to the metal and was out of our way so we sped up as well. As we are driving a toddler was teetering on the curb on our side, she had a toy of some type with her and she was wearing red sleeper type pj's. We slowed so that we could come to a stop and grab her but she started out into traffic, fell in our lane, got up and managed to get right in front of the 18 wheeler but fell again so that when the truck stopped she was sitting right under his front bumper. I went to get her but the guy in the pickup who had cut us off but had managed to get to the right of the 18 wheeler grabbed her up and took her to a business on the other side of the road. We followed them and called the police and then I woke up. At the end of the dream I was crying and sobbing that this little girl was safe after what was nearly a disaster.
What is going on in my brain?

Sometimes we are traveling so fast that we forget the path we are traveling on and we should slow down in case there are obstacles that can get in the way on our destination.
I'm not sure this would apply in your case, but that's what came to me. I'm sorry you had such an awful dream. Dreams can really be frightening and so crazy sometimes.

My take is travel dreams are about progress, the desire to progress or perhaps progress on a specific goal. Since you were with your husband and he was driving, maybe it's a goal you both share and he has more control of it. Definitely, as MagicMuffin says, the dream is about obstacles in your path. At first I thought there were 3 obstacles: the 18 wheeler, the truck and the child. But I'm thinking the truck driver really came to the rescue, basically working with you to save the child. So maybe there is a problem that you see as an obstacle but you might want to look at it in another way. Or perhaps you have help that you may be overlooking. I can't help but think that the child is you, vulnerable and lacking control of the conditions of the outside world. But you made lots of choices to keep yourself and your child-like self safe, as you traveled that perilous stretch.
Or the dream could be just saying be careful driving in waking life :) I think it was a good dream. For me, how I feel in the dream is the most important aspect because it oftentimes mirrors how I'm feeling about something in waking life that needs attention.
I forgot to add that Jung believed the Divine Child, who I think the child in your dream is, is one of our archetypes. And this is from one of my dream books The Secret Language of Dreams by David Fontana. "The Divine Child is the archetype that leads us towards individuation... it is therefore the symbol of the true self. It is both innocent and vulnerable, yet at the same time inviolate and possessed of vast transforming powers. Contact with the child can strip us of the sense of personal aggrandizement upon which the ego greedily feeds, and reveal to us how far we've strayed from what once we were and aspired to be."

| 3. That was my first thought, too, that the child was a symbol for you |
|
And even though she stumbled through a very dangerous situation, with your good intent and the help of the "pick up" driver, who picked her up and help her out, she got through the situation safely. You were upset, because it wasn't the process you intended for her, but the outcome was more or less the same.
So are you stumbling through a situation that feels like it could be dangerous, trying to get somewhere but unsure how to proceed? Are you reluctant or resistant to someone else's efforts to help you get there?

I probably do think that my life path could be dangerous to me and since I'm crossing a whole bunch of people all going at a 90 degree angle from me, they could kill me or at least ruin that tender part of me. I am working on a big (personal)project and it does feel like I don't know how I'm getting there. I guess it does feel like getting across 4 lanes of speeding, heavy traffic.
Ooo!

and that child stepped out without realizing how dangerous it was. Yeah I am relating to your interpretation too.

| 4. Oh dear what a terrible anxiety dream! |

Don't you just hate it when you are crying and sobbing in a dream? That experience always wipes me out. :( So hard to come back to reality when there are such strong emotions in the dreamtime.
I agree that the child is an archetype--either for you, as was stated, or even (just tossing out another idea here) an idea or a plan that you're nurturing IRL. Do you have any plans or life changes that you're concerned about coming to fruition?

I am working on something and I think I feel alone in it. I also feel like a lot of it is dependent on crossing a bunch of people, some whom I've already had to cross (disagree with and move on from.)Too many people in my life have tried to tell me no - you're doing it wrong yet my inner voice says don't listen to those who don't have your best interest at heart. Too many times I've had someone make my journey into some kind of competition rather than a joint venture. That always makes me sad since I'm more of a supportive person, someone who will help in any way that I can.
It has turned out that strangers are far more supportive of me then those I thought were my friends. Maybe this is the meaning. Thank you again.

I understand that driving down a road is a metaphor for your life. I imagine the huge truck points to anxiety about dangers in your life with your hubby, like financial disaster, loss of a job, whatever. As for the child, are you and your husband postponing children because you are afraid of dangers up ahead? If not, could it indicate that you two are so busy with your lives that you are leaving time for fun and family?

We aren't thinking of having kids but we are trying to plan for our future. I do have worries about taking care of all the people I'm responsible for/to. And no we really don't have time for fun lately.
Thank you!

| 11. Saving a baby certainly doesn't sound like a bad dream. |
|
Many possibilities here, but the fact that when you woke you were crying from relief and happiness at the saving of the baby doesn't strike me as a bad thing.
To put it into personal language, my husband and I (family, marriage) are driving down the road of life going very fast, perhaps too fast (who's driving BTW? i.e. Who's the "driving force" in this little phase of your life being dramatized?), and we need to get to the "right" side of this issue or experience or phase of my life (right could signify "correct" or the "right-brain," i.e. the more male-oriented aspect or the mental as opposed to the physical or vice versa depending on your assns). We're being blocked by other people or circumstances or just personal fears. Then, we become aware that some young idea or new project or young thing in our life is endangered by our rush or by being too close to the rush and hurry of life. We try to save this new thing but are not able to ourselves. Some other force or circumstance is able to save the baby (newly started project, job, idea?) and I am extremely relieved at this. I'm being assisted or the good is being brought about by forces other than myself and I'm relieved about it.
Not sure how this might fit in your life, but it certainly sounds like a good experience on the road of life.
