| I've decided to use buckets and pots in my greenhouse this year |
|
I'm having a bit of difficulty getting the ground ready enough to build it on. It has been raining so much here lately that those who would help work daylight 'til dark doing their stuffs.
I need to plant soon, so why not go with containers?
This will also allow me to feel out hot spots in greenhouse this season.
I plan to mostly grow tomatoes, but want to do some zukes, cukes, and squash.
A buddy of mine worked in the boxwood fields for years and has access to 2gal - 5gal containers. I assume I can mix last year's compost with "potting soil" to grow in.
Anyone have any sites/tips for me to get this going? Second pretty day in a row and I'm going nutz! The old timers around here tell me not to plant yet.. but.. gawsh!

| 1. Thin out the babies when they sprout. |

They have extensive roots, so you don't want them to get rootbound in the pots. Put some sort of trellis in the bucket before you put the seeds in, so you won't disturb tender roots. I use the heavy guage wire fencing, cut up and formed into a cylinder. Any other sturdy material should work fine, though.
Everyone will do fine in pots, especially in the warm greenhouse. Are you in the frozen north? I'm in central FL, and complaining I've only harvested 2 tomatoes so far. Wa. :(
