| And another question, what eats grass seed at night? |
|
Last year I had yard work done behind my house. A new lawn was laid but parts of it did not winter. Last week, I raked the yard, watered it lightly and spread grass seed. Watered again. In the AM, I went out to water again and it looked as though I had not seeded the areas that were bare. Repeated the same procedure. Next AM, hardly any seed to be seen.
Yesterday I tried again. This AM, still very little seed out there.
Nothing--including birds- is in the yard during the day. I have not seen anything in the early evening. I have to believe some nocturnal animal is chowing down in the middle of the night.
Ant thoughts as to the culprit and what to do about it?
Thanks, PR

Nasty little things, they'll eat most any edible plant matter, and love seeds of all kinds.

| 2. Any of a multitude of furry little nocturnal rodents. |

Voles, field mice, rats....
Birds also feed in the twilight and pre-dawn. Unless you get up very early, you could miss them.
