Frost is a coming .... 10/21 Ohio .... Thanx and a poem

Just picked my last 30 Tomatoes ..... a big thank you to whomever suggested
"Mortgage Lifter" tomato just picked my last 3 ... awesome tomato

pulled out of the ground my red cayenne pepper plant .... they will be strung
up along with my habenaros in my front window to dry and I'll use them till next
summer .... I could make hot food every day for 1/2 a year .... but they will
look real nice w/ the habenaros ..... red and orange




I now swear by "better bell" green pepper .... much better than california wonder

The Swiss Chard is good for another few weeks

My Redskin Potatoe (I:loveya: Dan Quayle) plants are covered w/ towels in the hopes
I can a little more growth on them.

And now for the fall poem:

When the weather was hot and sticky that was no time to dunk your ***** :rofl:

1. Capping off anther weird weather year, my part of the world is skipping right over "frost"

and going straight to "freeze" tonight-- as in temps in the 20's F-R-E-E-Z-E.

Pulled up the last of my basil (that never did recover fully from the hell-hot summer) and picked off the last of the tomatoes and a whole boatload of peppers. Made several pretty arrangements from the flowers that are still going strong in the ground.

Hoping my rosemary and Swiss Chard are up to the cold challenge. Ate several peas straight from the pod-- my fall crop hasn't done too well b/e the ground hog decided they are his new favorite treat-- and hope they might surprise me with their heartiness.

Started sterilizing the potting mix from my veggies to become next year's flowering plant soil. (Pull up plant, pour boiling hot water over the soil in the pot, let cool overnight, store soil in garbage bags in an old trash can and drainage rocks in a several big plastic pots.)

Oh well, at least we didn't have a 10/1 frost like last year. :shrug:

2. We skipped frost and went to freeze too

Beautiful frost covered lawn in the morning. I need to get the garden put to bed but an issue with the well and no water for a few days derailed that project.

Can't wait 'til next season. :)

3. As it turns out, we didn't have a freeze after all.

So, instead of enjoying some further ripened specimens later this month, we'll be having young peppers with young peppers in young pepper sauce all next week. ;)


I'm already thinking about what to plant in the Spring. It's going to be a LONG winter. :(

A few more days of harvest!

Well issue is resolving very slowly. We have water and it's clear. We have good pressure on the first floor (sometimes) and marginal to non-existent pressure on the second floor where the bathroom is. Gotta love these old antebellum houses! There was a filter compartment with no filter in the line from the well. The landlord put a filter in and I'm thinking without a booster pump, we may have to do without that second filter. Not enough pressure. He's coming over this afternoon to remove it and test my theory. (Luckily one of my clients is a plumber down in Texas.)

It will resolve eventually. I'd just like to have a real shower. ;)
