Does anyone have one? I would like to buy my parents a dwarf avocado. They really don't have enough room in their backyard for a full size & avocado trees can get hugh. Their neighbors bought a dwarf, one lousy avocado off of it.
I googled to find out more & all I found was lots of stuff about how there aren't any successful dwarfs & nurseries selling dwarfs claiming that the trees are wonderful. I found one article in the LA Times that was supposed to get some info, but it was archived & I would have to pay.
Does anyone have any information or know where I can find info? I don't want to get them a tree that isn't going to produce any fruit.
Thanks in advance! (Oh, they live in SoCal so there's no problem with climate, etc.)

Mentions two dwarf varieties, but it says they are in trial. You may want to contact them and see if they can give you an update. Here is the link to fruit tree information: http://cesonoma.ucdavis.edu/gardener/pdf/fruits_nuts_berries_grapes_sonoma.pdf

When we lived in Arizona, we had pomegranates and citrus that would get massive if my father didn't keep them pruned; they were plants that would have happily captured a kid and made off with it. But We always had a ton of citrus all winter and enough pomegranates that my mother was constantly washing red stains off of us and the walls and our clothes.... (She hated that bush.)
I seem to recall that avocados are male and female, but no further information. I do know that they have to be about ten years old (or grafted from older stock) before they will bear.

than my parents would like to put into it.
I have found out waay more than I really wanted to know about avocado trees. I didn't read the male/female part, but did read that they're catagorized as a/b. If I understand it correctly, if you have a lot of trees it doesn't matter if they're all a or all b. Only if you only have one or two do you need to make sure they are different. That made absolutely no sense to me. I found a forum for big growers & they posted in code. Way over my pay grade.

It's abot ten feet tall no flowers for thrre years, never a fruit , but I am in the desert where they are not reccomended, There is a new Hybrid reccomended for home gardeners called "holiday" per Sunset ; fruit up to a lb each. 10-12 ft .It sounds perfect, but try and find one
