Cost of pavers per sq. foot?

I'm looking into pavers for a walkway and patio. I was given one quote of $18 per square foot installed. It seems a bit high to me. In doing a little on line research, everything I've found says the cost of pavers installed is between $4.00 and $10.00 per square foot depending on the part of the country you're in.
I'll call some other installers but I'm just wondering if anyone else has used pavers and if they'd care to share the price they paid.
