Poll question: Decisions. decisions, decisions!

Do I have a dozen or so plants growing alongside the house that I can't identify. Did I plant them and forget? Are they something new to me that will actually make a nice flower? Are they a biennial that is finally making an appearance from seed?

1. Anything that comes up that I didn't plant ...

I believe in signs. I believe that anytime something comes up that I didn't plant it is a sign that I did not put down the mulch heavy enough in that spot. So I pull the offending plant and then double up on the mulch in the spot where it grew.

This is one way to view it. Other's view it differently.

I believe that anything that comes up that I didn't plant (that I don't know what it is) is a sign that I might need the plant -- it might be interesting, pretty, or useful. It's like a free present from Mother Nature!

By this method I have added some beautiful sea oats and virginia creeper to my side yard, and some goldenrod (medicinal) to the back yard, and also Queen Anne's lace -- wild carrot, which is edible. Also, my radish reseeded itself last year, as did some basil, and not knowing what they looked like when they were very small, I could have easily pulled them up, until I waited! :D

3. That's what I'm wondering about - I've planted bienniels in the past, but I

don't know what the leaves look like, so I'm crossing my fingers!
