Being sick allows me to watch crappy TV and some people in suits on the History channel told me the world is ending in 2012. Mayan calendars, Revelations, I Ching, Native American writings etc say so. So should I scrap the 401k and rack up debt since I won't have to pay it off?

| 1. They always forget that the Mayan calendar continues |
|
into a completely new age. All 2012 means is that a drastic change is expected. Since those prophecies are occasionally self fulfilling and since I'm not too keen on the kind of world that would allow a rich half wit like Stupid so much power, I'm all for it.

but I did see someone talking who was listed as a 'Nostradamus expert' so they probably covered it.
The best quote I heard about Nostradamus was something like 'Make predictions vague enough and you can convince just about anybody of anything.'

and it was laughable. They GUESS that the illustrations in a Nostradamus manuscript were done by his son and they GUESS that what looks like a ship's wheel is actually a picture of the Milky way and they GUESS that we're heading into some sort of alignment with the plane of the galaxy and they GUESS that all sorts of vague predictions are referring to this as the end of the earth.
That much woo in one sitting left me a mass of quivering giggles.

This writing COULD mean A which is then taken as fact. That "fact" is then used to say subsequently this other writing COULD mean B. This continues all the way to Z and in combination WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE ON THIS DATE.

|
No, not the Pope, some other idiot. That smug dope who was on Penn & Teller's "Bullshit" episode dealing with the end of the world.
Back in the Eighties, this clown wrote a book on Nostradamus and gave the name of the Anti-christ: Saddam Hussein.
A later revision of the Eternal Truths edited out Mr. Hussein and replaced him with Osama been Forgotten.
On the same episode, Buy-bull Doom expert Tex Marrs noted, regretfully, that Hillary Clinton would be the perfect Anti-Christ but she's the wrong gender.

making tools out of anything but obsidian, stone, and bone escaped them.

You know, since they could so obviously predict the end of the world, they probably predicted their own demise, so they just spent their time eating plantains and building step pyramids instead of an arsenal to repel their doom.

I think UFO's built most of the castles in the UK too. How do I know? Because I do. You can't prove they didn't, therefore UFO's built most of the castles in the UK.

I don't believe that people were intelligent enough to do anything before October 28th, 1985, around noon. At that time, a glorious new age began, and light reached into the darkness of human civilization

There is an easy fix. Simply decide the "missing time" guy is rght and declare this year to really be 1707. Bingo. A 300 year grace period. Or adopt the Muslim calendar so it'd be 1428.
See, easy-peesy.

I seem to recall that there was a big thing about the world ending in 2000 and then 2001 based on "prophecies."
Just goes to show you, make your prophecies vague enough and they can mean anything.
