| Uh oh Heddi..the sun is gonna put you out of business.,, |
|
Cause you know I had this really really bad eye infection and the doc he gave me this stupid little thing called an Annibitotic or somethin like that..and I took it and took it and took it and nothin happened but I went outside and sat in the sun for an hour and I was teh cured! Doctors and nurses aren't needed...All I gots to do next time I get ill is sit in the sun. Cause sunshine is all natural and good so you noes it can't be bad for you. Shame on you nurses and doctors for hiding this fact..I don't think those annibiotics really do anything anyways...If they did, I could tell. Cause you know, my body tells me exactly what I need to know and nothin else...
(slightly exaggerated but sadly true tale here on the DU)

and that poster is a knucklehead. they were knocked down a peg when someone pointed out that children get horrible diseases and the response was that kids don't decide to get them (maybe). i guess there's an "age of majority" wherein you decide to get sick. :wtf:  :eyes:

Seriously! Because if the sun cures all that ails you then I am going to whither and die in SEattle because the sun only comes out like 2 x's a year and when it does it tends to beam its hot self right in to my ceiling fan and AC-less apartment. I mean condo. It can be 74 outside but it's 23984203948 Kelvin in my f'ing apartment. I mean condo.

Western Medicine is much younger than all those ancient cultures so it must not be very good...(I NEVER understood this attitude--people had short, painful miserable lives in the past, yet woos think they have all the secrets to health and long life?) http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=105x7937149#7938059

| 10. I'm loving ancient medicine |

you know, the medicine they used when they thought that humours caused disease, when they didn't believe that washing hands held any value (poor Mr.Lister, ridiculed by his community for suggesting hand washing may decrease deaths!), when many women died in childbirth, when we had opium and heroin and cocaine in our medicines. When our teeth rotted out and we generally died by the age of 50 because of ridiculous diseases that were incurable without the scientific model of medicine, etc etc.
But then again, the Native Americans *did* talk to animals and understand what they were saying, so who am I to argue?>

that the person is lucky they got "healed" and not 2nd degree burns on their eyeballs.
Many medicines, including many antibiotics, cause Photosensitivity in patients. That means that you are more likely to get sunburn if you take this medication---whether it's a pill, drop, or cream.
Antibiotics are notorious for this, and eye drops especially.
So the fact they were cured is amazing. They could have very well ended up in an emergency room with corneal burns that would have taken a while to heal and may have left permanent scaring, depending on how badly they were burned.
And were the medication photosensitive, it would have been imperative for the pharmacist to inform the patient of this (especially since it's July and SUmmer and all that nonsense). THere probably would have been a label on the medication warning patients to be cautious when going into the sun.

we should recommend that they treat ALL maladies with this. When they're blind, maybe they'll stop being an idiot

| 8. No, they'll still be idiots |
|
and only slightly more blind than they are now.
They will then claim that BIG PHARMA has no incentive to cure blindness because it was BIG PHARMA that caused the blindness and never pay any attention to the fact that they ignored the big yellow sticker on the bottle that said STAY OUT OF THE SUN YOU FUCKING MORON

than Holistic medicine. With Holistic Medicine, you don't have to worry about sun cancer. Sun cancer was invented by the Medical Wheel of Despair to KEEP US LINING THEIR POCKETS11!!

| 16. Well yes - as long as you don't get skin cancer , or go blind from looking directly at the sun |
|
I remember that when I was a child and my grandmother was staying with us, I had a cold, and she insisted that I sit by the (closed) window so that the sun would shine on me and presumably cure my cold.
