that while the present situation is a fucking mess, I don't really think it justifies quoting a Republican Congressman's 1932 rant about evil foreign bankers in the USA.
Especially when said Congressman was an explicit supporter of Hitler. So he was no doubt using 'bankers who came here from Europe' as a code for you-know-who.

and that's what's happening, bottom line. A lot of people are slowly falling into panic.

Geeze, my wife has a 401K because that how you save for retirement where she works... We're hardly huge capitalists, just middle class folks trying to pay the mortgage on a 60 year old Cape Cod.

Top THAT! :P
I work in the aerospace/defense industry, which seems to be riddled with class traitors. As part of my job here in Egypt, I occasionally have to attend social functions with visiting corporate higher-ups.
Recently I've chatted with two very high-level execs who are both...those who frequently read GD had better sit down...lifelong Democrats.
I know that because they told me so, while we were discussing the elections.
Our home plant, admittedly in Los Angeles, also has a high population of Democrats. You see a lot of anti-Bush bumper stickers in the parking lot.
This should only come as a surprise to the Terminally Naive, who seem to think our whole industry is a subsidiary of the GOP.
Boeing's chief lobbyist in DC, for many years, has been Linda Daschle. A/k/a Mrs. Tom Daschle, probably a lifelong Democrat her own self.
PS: I don't really make bombs or other fun explosive stuff, I'm just a sort of Geek Without Portfolio. But sometimes I like to wind up my more self-righteous Dem brethren and sistren by telling them I make bombs.
Usually something like: "Yeah, I'm on a top-secret chemical-warfare project to make Americans more stupid. And reading your posts, it seems to be working."

and is as rabidly anti-Bush as anyone on this board. But he works for teh evil so he deserves to go down (his pension is STOCK based and I'm very worried about his financials right now). I did like the one person who when I expressed concern for my father wanted to know if he was a Republican..because if he was, I guess I should be okay with him becoming poor...x(

I checked my 401(k) today. Remember back when that amount went UP every year? So far, I'm running a small negative percentage and have lost a few hundred dollars overall. I do not think that will improve soon.
But I'm mostly invested conservatively (the only conservative thing about me). Only about 12% in the stock market, the rest in boring stuff.
A co-worker had most of his funds in "Emerging Markets," a very volatile little crap-shoot.
He says he has lost $180,000 so far. He tries to console himself by saying it's only paper losses. But that's not really true. This is money we are counting on to keep us, in old age, from eating cat food. Or the cat.
