My heart goes out to Bluebear, Zhade, cboy4 and every other GLBT member of DU. This should be a place of solace and safety for them.

I can't imagine what GLBT people must have felt last week when all those bigoted propositions passed. When I woke up last Wednesday and read the results of the votes I was sickened. It should have been a terrific morning and instead I spent it vacillating between anger and crying. We make a huge stride forward as a nation and in the same moment people are shoving us back. I got flamed by a couple of people for posting about it that morning too.

Judging by some of those posts, this was a "fuck it, let's see how fast I can get TS'd" run. I guess the poster no longer had any use for DU, and wanted to go out in, er, style. Or just come back under another name and start from scratch.

On a more general note: I think that for quite a long time, there have been a few people on the board who are not liberals or left-wingers, but hate the Bush government for other reasons: either because it is truly egregiously awful and can be seen as such even by people not on the left, or worse, because they are isolationists or generally against ALL governments for predominantly RW reasons. The xenophobes; the RW-libertarians; the Ron Paul sympathizers. I am sometimes shocked by the sources that some people think it's OK to post; I've seen links to Paul Craig Roberts, Pat Buchanan, even National Vanguard (that person did get the granite rather promptly!)

I hope that now that Bush is about to be out, and Obama in power, there will be a clearer demarcation between the left and the anti-establishment right. No doubt the latter will have a field-day with Obama as president- but at least no left-wingers will feel tempted to collaborate with them. And perhaps the anti-establishment right-wingers on DU will get tombstoned or decide to leave, improving the atmosphere here!

10. Weirdly, he was an eager and helpful contributor to the Writer's Group here at DU

He shared a lot of nuts-and-bolts insight into the business and process of writing, and in fact that's how I first encountered him and even PM'ed him once to comment on it. I didn't learn of his more... unsavory views until later, and it was quite a stunner when I found out.

Some rather ugly stuff in there. I'm sure he'll be missed in the 9/11 Forum, too...
