How do you think the astrology question affected the test? That one seemed a little odd to me.

That's quite a big swing for 1 question.
I'm glad you responded, I could use your expertise. I was just looking online for some good horror movies. I'm headed to the video store after work. Any suggestions? I haven't seen much lately for horror movies and I'm jonesing.

The last one I saw was 'I am Legend' and I should have known better. I am disgusted with myself for caving, I read the book years ago and it. was. awesome. and the movie just ruined my memory of it.
Now I'm back to revisiting my old faves, specifically vampire flicks, I need to restore my faith in the genre:
Rabid From Dusk til Dawn The Subspecies trilogy Fright Night The Lost Boys Blood and Donuts Shadow of a Vampire
Also John Carpenter's The Thing, Clive Barker's Nightbreed & (of course) Hellraiser.
How about you?

My wife is just about perfect but she is not a horror movie fan. She's willing to watch them with me but they give her nightmares. It was almost a deal breaker but she did like Bruce Campbell movies when we watched them. So I decided to marry her anyway.
I might have to see if I can find Blood and Donuts, looks interesting.
I did get "My Name is Bruce" for Valentine's Day(it was a very romantic gift for me, I'd been waiting for the movie for a long time). It's not really a horror movie but it's a funny one for Bruce Campbell fans. I watched "Quarantine" recently which was not very good.
I don't know if you are a Joss Whedon fan, I am, he is filming a horror movie right now.

|
Thank you so much for reminding me, I'm going to go out and rent all of the Evil Dead dvds for this weekend!
Blood and Donuts was only available in Canada last I checked, (I saw it when I lived in Vermont) but it's well worth a little extra effort if you can find it.
Oh, I forgot, I also caught the extended version of The Abyss and - wow - just wow. I know that water was cold, but Ed Harris makes Bradley Pitt look like a pretty boy (bmus swoons).
I will definitely check out Whedon's movie, well, I actually have to since our local EAC Union requires us to support fellow atheists, but I'm sure I'll love it anyway.

I'll have to check out the extended version of The Abyss. I haven't seen that movie in years.
I rented a couple of horror movies tonight. I just watched one. It is a zombie political satire. I don't know how I hadn't heard about it. It's a short movie, under an hour, but it had some funny stuff. The movie is Homecoming by Joe Dante
"It’s a few weeks before the Presidential election and an unpopular war still rages overseas. But when the Republican administration wishes that our dead troops could return to tell America how proud they were to serve their country, veterans begin to rise from their flag-draped coffins for the most horrific reason of all: to vote. Are they gloriously resurrected heroes or braindead zombie dissidents? And even if the administration can devise the proper spin in time to steal their re-election, will an army of men and women killed for a lie finally show our nation the true face of hell? Jon Tenney (THE CLOSER), Thea Gill (QUEER AS FOLK) and Robert Picardo (STAR TREK:VOYAGER) star in this provocative stunner from director Joe Dante (GREMLINS,THE HOWLING, PIRANHA) that The Village Voice calls "jaw-dropping…easily one of the most important political films of the era!"
Definitely worth a watch.

Japan has produced some excellent psychological horrors. The Ring films, of course, but there are plenty of others. Kairo (The Pulse) is particularly unsettling, apocalyptic in a very unusual way. One Missed Call is more conventional, and has its gory moments, but does what it does pretty well, particularly with building suspense. Shikoku is a slow-moving film about strange supernatural goings-on in rural Japan; I liked it mainly because it was the film debut of Chiaki Kuriyama (later to appear in Battle Royale and Kill Bill), and she has a way of commanding attention whenever she's on the screen. If you like violence and gore, Ichi the Killer certainly has that, though personally I didn't care for it. From Korea there's The Host, a creature flick with excellent special effects, some good performances, and a way of defying expectations in various ways. From the west, Pan's Labyrinth is terrifically creepy and sad, and Planet Terror is pure cheese, but in a good way. And Eraserhead is just wrong from start to finish, in that trademark David Lynch way.

I've seen the Ring movies but I definitely need to check some more Japanese horror out. I'll have to try Pan's Labyrinth again, I tried watching it once when I was sick but fell asleep.

I enjoyed The Ring(s) and really liked Pulse - which was not at all what I expected.
Avalon is another favorite of mine (thanks to Sal who recommended it), but I lost myself completely in Pan's Labyrinth, what an extraordinary film it was, there is no way to describe it to anyone who hasn't seen it.
Eraserhead was one of the most disturbing films ever, I'd like to erase it from MY head, but just like everything else David Lynch touched it's seared into your brain.
Another disturbing but more enjoyable flick was David Cronenberg's Crash.
