| An extremely paranoid post in GD |
|
I won't say what it is, rallying the troops, blah blah. But there was a post by someone who certainly seems to have real paranoid delusions (Claims to have worked for the CIA, now "They" are threatening her through her developmentally disabled son).
I really feel for these people; I wonder if they have someone in their life who notices, or cares. One of my relatives had incredible delusions. She thought her husband worked for the CIA (There it is, again), and that he had fought off a demon who was trying to rape her. The fucking horrible part is that her family thought it was funny, or something, and supported the delusions! I believe she's now in a facility, away from them, but it was still a horrible situation.

in the hospital. I got one who was convinced the food was poisoned to sneak cans of tube feeding out of the supply room because if nobody on tube feeding was dying, it was probably safe. After a couple of weeks of drinking that horrible stuff he felt better physically and we could talk to him about going to the psych ward because living in that kind of fear was a terrible way to live. He went. He did well on medication and eventually went home.
Another one had bottomed her potassium to an emergency level and was convinced all drugs were poison. The Socratic method worked with her and we identified high potassium foods and I sent somebody to the kitchen at 1 AM to prepare a big plate of them for her. Her level had returned to normal by the next afternoon. Unfortunately, she was quite adamant about not needing help, as so many of them are. She went home as crazy as when she arrived.
I found that most of them could be reasoned with if one did it creatively and with respect.
However, this isn't the place for it. I hope people on that thread weren't too unkind. Living in fear is horrible whether it's rational or irrational.

people were pretty much across the board recommending the poster seek therapy. In a nice way, too, not hostile

In another Thread-Which-Cannot-Be-Named ("Morford"), someone claimed they were recruited by the CIA. And their aunt was too! Because they had psychic powers and stuff.
:scared:
I wanted to ask if they were recruited by Agent Fox or Agent Mulder...
That thread started out as a woo echo chamber. Then one skeptic showed up to disagree. That poster was ganged up on and beaten severely with the "disrespect" stick. Until a few more skeptics popped in. Then we were accused of "bullying" the poor defenseless woos.
BTW, one of the woo posters accused us skeptics of "macho posturing."
I couldn't resist posting that many of our contributors in this group are females, and so probably not much into "macho posturing."
Oh, and you're also afraid of "the Feminine."
There just ain't enough ROFLs...

| 4. I just read that entire thread, plus the other one. |
|
I'm now going to go and rinse my brain.
It sounds to me like someone read far too many Robert Ludlum novels and thought that they were reading historical documents.

| 8. As an Aspie I feel very sorry that his autistic kid has to suffer through such insanity. |
|
I bet his constantly telling him that the bullies are tools of the government is traumatizing the poor guy more then the bullies themselves. That poster needs to be forcibly medicated.
