| 2012 looks to be the most over the top, eye-poppingly stupid disaster flick of all time |
|
Somebody gave Roland Emmerich too much money again and he's made... well, you've got to see this 5 minute clip from the movie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eZxBYItj2sMFundies and New Agers alike will probably spooge. It'll make a mint.

| 1. I'm just dying to see what all of the 2012-doomsayers will do on January 1 2013 |
|
My prediction is that they'll say something like "there was a spiritual apocalypse" or "we witnessed a fundamental change of the world order," but none of the believers-before-the-fact will come right out and say "yeah, we got it all wrong."

they'll "discover" that they the Mayans had miscalculated, and it's actually 2021. That way, they have another 10 years of garbage they can peddle.
The History Channel would give them a fucking medal

| 12. Actually,the end of the Mayan calender |
|
occurs in October 2011 according to Mayans who have used it continuesly despite Spains suppression of Mayan culture back in the 16 century. Btw,more than a few of us woo'ers don't believe the end of the world bs either. We tend to see it as being similar to Dec 31-Jan 1.In other words, its time to go buy the next baktuns calender. Anyone pushing the 2012 date is peddling bullshit.Frankly,I am of the opinion that it is deliberate fear mongering by those who would rather keep people living in fear for political and social control reasons.

from Daddy Grace in the 60s to Wayne Bent just a few years ago here in NM.
The cults go on as before and no one ever mentions the prophecy, whether or not they gave everything away in preparation for it, and especially that they were wrong. They will walk away from you if you bring it up.
Magical thinkers can never be wrong, you see, and if they have a memory of a failed prophecy, then Satan planted that memory and if you bring it up, you're one of Satan's helpers.
Slick, aren't they?

that (insert supernatural beings of your choice) decided there were a few good people on Earth, and thus decided to postpone the New Era/End Of Civilisation As We Know It/Rollover of the Mayan Odometer/Rapture/Arrival of Planet Nebiru/End of Oxford Street Golf Sale.

| 6. How about "Paranormal Activity?" |
|
It was being SHREDDED on a local (Los Angeles) radio station this morning. Verdict: it tried for the same quasi-documentary feel as "Blair Witch Project" but failed miserably.
Personally I'm tired of its hype. The producers seem to be spending more money on advertising than they spent on the movie, usually a bad sign. At least I've been hearing that damn radio commercial about every 30 seconds.

they said it wasn't anything brilliant, but it was a fun "horror" movie. And I will say that there wasn't any advertising on release; they only started advertising once it did well in the limited open

Still not sure I want to spend money on it, as my movie-going opportunities are very limited these days.

I'm really developing a lot of compassion for the Maya. They're going to have every half witted woohead in the world descend on those old cities over the next couple of years. Sure, they'll make money selling them trinkets, and charging for photographs, but that's going to get old fast. The wooheads will be everywhere, crashing through the whole jungle, and there will be no place to get away from them.
They've got another two years and one month of this shit to go through and the day after the nothing changes but the calendar prefix, the wooheads will all go home grouchy and mosquito bitten and wait for the next grand conspiracy or end of the world date.

Maybe a few of them will fall head-first off the Mayan pyramids. Or come down with interesting tropical diseases they will try to treat with ju-ju salve and magic water.

We had free tickets to see it, so what the hell, right? I love action movies and the special effects looked pretty good.
BLAH!
This movie had it all...government conspiracy, new age crap, science-fails-in-the-face-of-mayan-superstition
I wish they had just said "God did it" when explaining this disaster. Instead they opted for a bullshit science-y sounding explanation-"Mutated Neutrinos!" that heat up the Earth's core until it boils but surprisingly leaves the surface of the Earth lush and verdant.
The acting was terrible, the dialogue was terrible (The last line in the movie is "No More Pullups!"--yes, the pullups kids use to keep from wetting the bed), even the action was terrible. I am dumber for having seen this movie.

is that it has been universally called out as garbage. Even the positive reviews on rotten tomatoes acknowledge that it sucks; they say it just works as "disaster porn."
