| 1. I don't have firsthand experience with Vista yet BUT I am in tech support. |

I do a lot of low-level troubleshooting at my job, and I've had discussions with many callers while waiting for installs or uninstalls to finish about their Vista systems. I have had a lot of people say that more recent XP games will run fine as long as you right click the executable and select "Run as Admin", but I've had others say that there are still games out there that don't run at all. Hopefully there are fans out there of many games who will take up the slack and develop patches for some of these games.
The deal-killer for me concerning Vista is that there STILL are not drivers available for SLI mode on laptops in it. If you go to Alienware or another system builder and configure a laptop with two graphics processors in it you are forced to either take XP as your operating system, or wait until compatible drivers are finally released. It's already been close to a year so I'm not holding my breath.

| 4. I have a *huge* collection of PC games |
|
going back even to the days of the C64, which I run on an emulator in XP. I also have lots and lots of old DOS games, Win3.1 games, Win95/98 games, etc. I probably have a copy of every version of DirectX ever made just by virtue of being included in the games I bought.
My only reason for getting Vista is DirectX10, and the only reason I want/need DX10 is for Crysis. Period, end of story.
What should I do? Should I have the temerity to set up a triple-boot system (given I also run linux)? Or should I dedicate a stand-alone terminal equipped with my best hardware, and leave ALL the digital shenanigans on the internet-connected PC?

on Vista Biz 64 and it played well but with a few crashes to desktop. Come to find out I had some bad RAM which may have caused the problem but dunno yet. Vista bit the dust on me due to the RAM and I have not reinstalled yet with my new RAM. Not real excited about getting it going again but I'll get to it eventually.

older games it is touch and go
By the way, Vista has its own quirks and things like oh Campaing Cartographer, (mapping program) or even Macromedia's Dreamweaver, have MAJOR issues with vista
Yep, in my view Microsoft screwed the pooch to the point that I am considering getting a laptop (to replace the one I am typing from, an older tablet) that will run XP... or double boot... or linux
