how's it going?
Thought I'd stop in and say "hi" (especially after just having one of those "THOSE" discussions here on DU. Whew. Some people just do NOT get hs'ing . . . :grr: )
Anyways - It's been really slow in here lately, so let them know you're all alive and kicking and what you're up to with your kids. (I - er - may have invited a few Du'ers over to visit our forum, too . . . )
Let's educate the uneducated, support each other, and inspire some to consider hs'ing for their kids.

I rarely post on DU anymore, but I jumped into that one thread to support you.
Take care.

It's been really SLOW lately - I'm not sure why. However, if you have any questions or comments or anything, please post - I'd love to get some dialogue going in here.

Both of us have done a lot of volunteer work lately and have some serious traveling coming up. He's found a few new interests, I've stayed pretty busy trying to find places to put the resultant supplies and various projects. Tomorrow we're planning on starting a timeline of various geological periods and the fossils found in each- he was so excited planning this (totally his idea) that he stayed up an hour past his bedtime telling me what animals go where and what's so interesting about them.

It's been pretty busy around here with my son's 6th grade year. We've been using the Calvert School program since 1st grade, with few modifications.
Fine motor skills have long been my son's nemesis, making handwriting agonizing for him. For the most part, I let him do written work on the computer, as I'm more interested in having him absorb the info and write well than having him present poor work in a pretty package.
My exception to this is his spelling class. He's always been a strong speller, and has never missed any words on his tests...ever. Since this is not an issue, spelling lessons are combined with handwriting. It seems to be working well so far.
I've also changed the format of his science lessons a bit. Calvert suggests having students copy vocabulary definitions into their notebooks before they've seen them used in any sort of context. I've found this to be less effective with Timmy, who is more inclined to absorb the info when he's reading from the textbook. So I have him copy the definitions after each reading assignment.
What's new with you?
