| I love the ads! I never heard of the movie "Night Digger" scheduled for tomorrow night |
|
but the ad was so great, I am definitely going to watch it. Seemed Hitchcockian. Patricia Neal, blind sister, gothic mansion, young ruffian on a motor cycle. Appeared sort of "See No Evil"ish. I am banning myself from checking it out on IMDB. If you comment, please no spoilers or at least warn me, thanks!

| 1. Trailers. That's the technical name, I guess. Trailers. You got me |
|
interested enough when you said motorcycle. I can't find the trailer anywhere. It's up here next Tuesday at 7 so I put it on record. I'll take a look. I may have seen it before. The reviews are not indicating stellar, but let us see for ourselves. I think a lot has to do with your approach to it. If you are ready to sit and get into it, you will and will enjoy. But, if you are not up for it, it won't impress you. Get the popcorn ready (apple goes good with it) and enjoy. dc

| 2. It's listed as The Road Builder" now, but it's the same movie |
|
as in the, yes you're right, trailer. I think it was 1971 and the TCM rating was 3 stars.
It almost looked a little Hammer filmish. I'm definitely up for it. We'll see.

| 3. Looks like they repackaged it or something. Funny. The Road |

Builder. I did find a uk film site with it, but Tuesday it's listed as The Night Digger, and same info. Well a rose by any other name may still have thorns, but we will see how sharp those thorns are. dc

| 5. Bizarre, macabre, disjointed. It really doesn't hang together well. |
|
I understand the poor rating on imdb. I did see it before. Very little recognition except for the end. Which really doesn't fit in too well. I hope you have seen my post about life and death on a motorcycle in the motorcycle group. Same ending. dc

| 6. I thought it was interesting and had unexpected twists |

I think one is expecting the old, uh oh! psychotic killer on the loose in an old house with a blind mother and repressed daughter and that it will turn into the usual - they have to get him, before he gets them! model. At least that's where I thought it was headed. Not that the daughter would fall in love with him knowing that he is a psychotic killer and run off with him.
I think Maura viewed his psychosis as a treatable "head injury"(she works with stroke victims) and plus she had the bond that she herself had suffered from some kind of unnamed illness. But love can't cure all - too bad! Also, who knew that 800 pounds could go so far and buy you an idyllic life in the Scottish highlands complete with sheep and turtleneck sweaters? And some prize is needed for "Worst Tam o Shanter" ever! The pom pom was as big as Patricia Neal's head!
I give it plot points more than anything else and I thought the acting by all involved was competent.
(The one thing I just could not figure out for the life of me was why the nurse parked in that weird park-like place, and why she got out of the car.)

| 7. Maybe deep inside I remembered it. |

I think she suffers a common syndrome. If she is in love with him, what he does, right or wrong, does not matter. He didn’t much look at them. Until the one in church, then I knew, ah, he likes them young and tender. Yeah, I thought 800 pounds? The sweaters alone today could cost that. But, you know, it is fiction. And he had the boots, the Wellingtons. And the sheep. I don’t think she saw him as treatable. It was just her selfishness. She wanted him, as she saw it as her last chance. The nurse parked by the pond or lake. That didn’t make sense. Where was she going. Mora & Billy were good. And it was all done right. It was a Roald Dahl script. So, macabre. But I think that is an essential to any good thriller, it must have some loose ends. Some red herrings. Makes it seem more real that way. Oh, the road builder. At first I thought the motorcycle didn’t play enough of a role. Then the first girl, I thought, oh, he just kidnapped her. Then I realized he is carrying her on the bike … dead. And then I got the road builder title. Not bad all around. dc
