| I just saw Metropolis for the first time |
|
I rented the newly restored (2003) version of the original Metropolis with a modern recording of the original soundtrack.
Wow! What a movie. Not just a classic movie, not just a really great silent movie. What a movie! My mouth was open for the entire 2 hours and 4 minutes. I was transfixed.
I just ordered a copy from Barnes and Noble. It'll be $30 but worth it. If you've been meaning to watch this movie, but haven't gotten around to it, get it now!
I gather previous versions have been pretty butchered, so this isn't a recommendation of anything but the newly restored version.

| 1. Is that the version that's supposed to have restored |
|
all the previously missing portions?
I have a video of the Kino version of 2002, and it's excellent filmic quality, but it does have some sections missing, with a banner telling what happens in the missing portions. I've heard that there is now a newer version that has the missing pieces restored, and I'd love to see it. It's a wonderful film, so I'll keep an eye out for the next screening on cable, and hope it's the newer version, and record it.

I'll have to get my hands on this one if it is more complete. Thanks for the heads up.
