M-Audio Fast Track USB
$29 new (marked down from $129
It's a small, simple USB audio interface I'll use with Garageband on my Powerbook for recording quick and dirty songwriting demos.
It has an instrument/line input, an XLR mic input, playback monitor, headphone out and RCA L&R out.
Eager to try it out. I'll be traveling a good bit doing some songwriting in Nashville and LA. The built-in mic in my Powerbook is pretty lame.

That's a pretty neat little gadget. That's also quite a deal. The Professor

at the Apple Store. I can't see anything about it, including the packaging that was anything but new. It has the warranty and everything.
WooHoo!
Now I get to carry it and a mic in my bag along with all the other crap . . .

I just got an "out of box" deal on a TC Electronics M-300. (Yeah i bought a second one.) I got about an extra 20% off, but it's still under warranty. But that's not the kind of deal you got. The Professor

I was looking to get one of those just for quick demo stuff. But I figured a cheap mic in the soundcard on my laptop was fine. Still, for that price I would have pick one up too.

Used the Fast Track fairly extensively for the last few weeks. The instrument input is a little noisy, but the mic input works great. I made a number of worktapes while doing some intensive songwriting. Really works well with Garageband on my Powerbook.
