Digital multi-tracking and CD mastering ... anyone for geeking on this?

I am going to get a stand-alone, Fostex MR-8 which is, IMO, a BREAKTHROUGH! 8 track digital multi-track for $300!

Howsomever, I intend to burn my mastering cds on my puter. The Fostex can export as wav files through USB. Any suggestions for a good, cheap software mixer to master and burn the cds?

I'm partial to Cool Edit Pro which has since become Adobe Audition for almost all of my digital mixing/editing/mastering.
Check out this place for some interesting software deals.(Audition 1.5 is down at the bottom)

After reading the reviews it seems you'll want to invest in that 512MB memory card(looks like you can get them for under $50) and a good mic.

Seems to me you can get by with the 128 if you record and transfer one or two tracks at a time and multi-track mix it with something like Audition and then do a final stereo mix and burn to cd instead of doing it all in the Fostex.

I'm digging that it is battery operated and portable.
Sounds like an excellent tool for getting ideas down easily and quickly.

And I noticed that it has a S/PDIF out which means you should be able to record directly to your computer if your soundcard has a S/PDIF input, bypassing the need for a larger memory card.

3. I do not know what functions the Fostex has, but what I do,,

I have a VS-1824CD. I do all my mixing on the VS,
sometimes combining tracks when I have more tracks
than the VS can handle at once. I then hook up the
VS to a Sony stereo receiver with fairly good speakers to
do final adjustments. After burning a CD R/W,
I read the file into my PC and do final mastering
with Rip-Edit-Burn (volume levels, attenuation,
sometimes more effects).

4. not sure what you mean to do -

export tracks singly and mix them in your computer?

Any sequencer that can import .wav files would work - Cubase, Sonar, Acid - there are a ton of other, cheaper alternatives.
