| Virtual Piano software -- Garritan vs. Ivory vs. other? |
|
Hi - I just got a new iMac solely for music, and am excited about it! I'm a classical pianist and want to do some very basic piano recording to get started.
(I'm learning the Mac software now -- garageband then Logic Express then Logic then whatever. I have Kurzweil and an M-Audio interface. I had difficulties with my PC, getting the soundcard, Cakewalk software, and Kurzweil to get along well.)
Anyway, as soon as I have money again I want to get a great piano sound. I know Garritan just came out with a virtual Steinway, and the Synthogy Ivory has gotten some raves. Anybody have experience, opinions, or anecdotes about these? Is there another option? (Both are EXPENSIVE -- like $300!!) Fwiw, I'm a music teacher so I can get educational discounts, but I don't think those are offered for these.
I would also love to hear in general what other musicians are doing with Macs! :hi:

| 1. Just fwiw, I made a decision. |

I've ordered the Garritan Steinway one -- the "Standard" (middle) version. Its list price is $199 but I got it online for about $150. I figured I don't really need three different pianos (as in Ivory and Quantum Leap's package) -- just one really good one. This seems to fit the bill at my budget level.
Can't wait to get it! :bounce:
