| Due to neighbors with hypersensitive hearing, I now own a Line 6 POD... |
|
Picked up a POD X3 yesterday afternoon...
It isn't bad- it's not pure tube tone, but the range of sounds it has makes it pretty versatile. Plus, having access to all of those effects (90% of which I'll never use, but....) is no bad thing.
I do wonder about some of the pre-programmed sounds. Some of those things are most-decidedly NOT musical sounding in ANY way...

And yes, some of those sounds are...let's call them "weird".

| 2. I used cans, as they had the longest cord.... |

But thanks for the warning!
I also hooked it up to my little Pro Junior amp, and it sounded pretty good. MUCH better than my old ZOOM effects processor.

| 3. I used buds because the Pocket POD has a belt clip. |

Just seemed natural to take my earbuds from my iPod and plug 'em right into the POD.
Next time I'll just stick a hot knife through my ear.

I found 3 good sounds on it. Then, i tried tweaking or programming my own. The range of control of the "settables" is pretty course.
I'm fairly disappointed in it.
Anyone want to buy one for $20?!?!? GAC

| 5. You got an X3, or a Pocket Pod? |
|
I think you could resell an X3 for a LOT more than $20!

The X3, though not "real" serves a purpose... I don't regret it so far- I'll be able to put it to some use!

I have a Boogie F-50. So, if i want the real saturated tone, i've got that. And, that model has a switch on it that turns off the power section completely, so a plug out of the special output takes the full preamp tone to a mixer, or the recorder. Than, i can slap on headphones and get pretty close to the same tone without making noise.
Now, if i'm actually putting down a lead track, i use that output and still run the amp kind of loud and mike it with an AKG416 at about 14 inches. Now i get the speaker sound, the air movement, and the direct sound and can mix them later. It sounds HUGE!
So, i really don't need any multieffect. I just wanted to try one. An experiment that failed. GAC

Though my first love is pure, 100% glowing-glass tone (I think my amp selections in the "post your gear" thread indicate that!)... I do at times want to cover songs that require some tastefully-used effects (reverb, delay, chorus, etc...). So this pod is kind of a "one stop shop" for that need.
Plus, I dabble with bass and a little (VERY little) singing, and the X3 has capabilities for that, as well (though I've not tried any of them as of yet).
I'm intrigued by the Boogie F-50 capabilities that you mention- I might have to go shopping again!
