1. I am a fan.

First remember Herb as a member of Oscar Peterson Trio on some JATP records. Then an orchestra member on Steve Allen's show. Since Allen was a reasonably good jazz pianist himself, Ellis was featured frequently in small groups settings.

they still play jazz on TV, but only during the commercials. :(
