Transcription is THE best method of learning about music.
Some of the hardest music I've tried to transcribe was arranged for strings.
There's something about the sonority that makes it particularly hard to pick out individual lines.

. . .there is lots of contrary motion in the center. Then, the timbres start to mesh a bit, or so i'd think.
I haven't done transcriptions in a million years, but always found them interesting to do. GAC
