LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Chief Deputy Daryl Osby has been named the Los Angeles County Fire Department's next leader.
Osby will take over the department as its first African-American fire chief.
The board of supervisors gave its official approval on Tuesday.
The 27-year veteran was hailed for his extensive experience, knowledge and community involvement.
Osby takes the place of Chief P. Michael Freeman, who led the agency for 21 years.
