DU AA Issues Group---discussion?

Would it be possible to have a discussion either AOL or here about what to do in general to handle these threads? They keep coming, and they clearly will never let up.

1. Here's my suggestion

I think we need a racial issues meta thread in GD that encompasses a number of issues -- how many white people even self professed progressives have bought into the reverse discrimination idea; how most white people are clueless about the effects of discrimination after slavery right up to the present; how white people benefit from discrimination today, routinely, without realizing it; how few people of color there are on DU, and how, therefore, a lot of dubious material goes unquestioned; etc.

We should actually plan our thread here, before launching it in GD.

2. I think a lot of people spout off just to spout off

I am fairly new around here, but it seems like the participants are addicted to the action in GD, LBN, and the Lounge that arises from the quickness of the action due to high volume of postings.

Hence, the slightly controversial opinion in order to gain some personal attention admist the mass of other postings. At the same time, everyone wants to be where the action is.

There is already the Race and Equality forum under Politics & Issues which gets very little attention. Would this be different?

If there was a metathread, it would have to be kicked to the top repeatedly.

and, has the theory of White Privilege ever been discussed?

3. re: white privilege

with the exception of these recent threads, i honestly think that most white DUers have at least a basic concept of the idea of white privilege, though i also think that not many know just how far and deep that privilege extends.

these are all great ideas (as well as the 2 posts above) and i just want to let ya'll know that i'll help in any way i can, just call on me.
