I pledge allegience to my Black people...
This from a SEVEN YEAR OLD avid reader. My own kids were reading Little Bear and Curious George about that age so she's gotta have a mighty comprehension of what she reads and an influential tutor. This reminds me of the 70's, probably because I haven't heard anything like it recently and, obviously, never from one so young.

...
"I pledge allegiance to my Black People," she said. I will keep myself physically fit, building a strong body free from drugs and other substances which weaken me and make me less capable of protecting myself, my family and my Black brothers and sisters."

Some in the media were less than thrilled by her "White nationalism is what put you in bondage: pirates and vampires like Columbus, Morgan, and Darein drank the blood of the sheep, trampled all over them with steel, tricks and deceit."

Ashante said his daughter was offended by a four-wall school mural with depictions of Black folks kneeling at the feet of Abe Lincoln with his hands outstretched "Like Jesus;" and then Black folk building the pyramids for a white pharoah and his wife.

"She said, 'Have you guys seen that racist mural?' and then she told them about white nationalism," her father told the Amsterdam News...
...
"The controversy surrounding this situation is unfortunate. Autumn...appeared before a culturally diverse and in her poem and actions she attempted to bring a wedge between African Americans and white students. The students rejected her efforts. We do not have a racially isolated community, people live and work and go to school together."
...
Late on Tuesday evening, Ashante called the Amesterdam News to say that someone was littering the Peeksill neighborhood with Nazi fliers.

1. The sense of entitlement
that white folks have, esp. in matters of race, is enough to make you gag. They don't mind equality--as long as they're the most equal. (apologies to George Orwell  )

2. Unfortunately, this is true.
Because I'm white, I've had other white people, who claim to have "many Black friends" :eyes: say some of the most unbelievable racist shit to me. I call them on it and they are shocked, shocked, shocked I would even think a thing falling from their lips could be construed as racist.

I can't even apologize for them anymore. All I can do is raise my kids better than these idiots were raised.

3. That's the only way that conditions will improve
when these ignorant stupid people are called on by smart white people. They've shown (the show is a perfect example) that they have neither respect nor regard for what black people have to say. Thanks for standing strong.

4. This is beautiful Ms. G.

My wish. I wish every young African-American child would recite the above captioned daily. This is simply beautiful, meaningful and poignant. Positive reinforcement is very important in black children.

Thanks for this beautiful post Ms. G.
