Rev. Lawson on Ken Lay: Ken was the victim of a lynching
"Ken Lay was neither black nor poor, as James Byrd was, but I'm angry because Ken was the victim of a lynching," Lawson said."

Rev. Lawson also likened Ken Lay to JFK, MLK and Jesus. You can read more about that here: http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/metropolitan/casey/4046117.html

I understand saying kind things about someone after he/she has passed but this was overboard. :eyes:

1. Agreed!
to put in the same sentence a well-connected rich white guy, who was never in any actual physical danger, in the same sentence as an actual lynching victim, makes me want to :puke:

Not to mention that the incredible insult this is to actual victims to a most brutal crime.

2. "I understand saying kind things"
After I die, speak the truth of me, or speak of me not at all.

3. Actually, a minister is supposed to be forgiving
though today's conservative Christians seem to be more about segregating and punishing. Anyway, if he'd merely said that Christ would forgive Ken Lay or that Ken Lay can seek redemption in the afterlife...okay. But to compare Ken Lay to folks who died because of extreme prejudice - especially James Byrd - when Ken Lay died from the stresses of being found a pirate of the worst sort is beyond misguided. This is truly disturbing. Makes you worry about how this influences those who barely understand who Ken Lay was or what he did. Perhaps his association with the leaders of government might not seem such a bad thing to the worshipers of Wheeler Ave Baptist Church.

Great article, thanks Cat!
