(I am a white woman over 60 who taught 15+ years in a conservative Christian college.)

About 4 years ago, 2 black young women students from different parts of the country said....

...their ministers (pentecostal?) were teaching that God put Africans into slavery to punish them for paganism and so that they would learn about Jesus.

...I found this appalling and thought they were kidding. They claimed no, this was a recent black (conservative) Christian attempt to explain slavery.

Have any of you here heard anything like this?? Maybe they were just seeing how much I would believe????

And preach that greed and money are the root of all evil....that makes a lot more sense. Oh....I forgot....a lot of preachers (of all colors and denominations) are making a lot of money doing this, and they don't want to point out the fact that greed is evil. It might make them look bad.

BTW, I am a white man (not greedy and evil, though), so you can't say I'm racist for saying that the slave owners and traders were greedy, evil white men...that's just what they were. America has been plagued with so many of them. 2. Because the truth of the matter is that black Africans were slave traders

as well. So, you can't just blame the white man. The truth is also that people should stop trying to second guess the Almighty and stop attributing motives to him without proof.

Are you saying you would even consider the possibility that "the Almighty" might have been responsible for the horrific system of slavery in the Western Hemisphere to punish black Africans for paganism and so they would learn about Jesus?

I can't imagine worshiping a God who would allow so much gut-wrenching pain and generations of suffering just to teach a lesson.
