I was getting a bit annoyed by the posts. I stated my intro because I was wondering if I was the only one who saw the correlation between blatant racism and the meme they were pushing. Majority of the people seemed to be taking the situation lightly or just mocking the references or the statements of the people. It was like they weren't seeing the full scope of meaning and the historical magnitude in the words these people were stating.
Lynchings in particular when stated by Whites always disturbs me, but even when I hear them make statements that are in line with those aspects it's even more destructive. They don't say clearly but there's an underlying sense of what they're meaning. Like when the golf newscaster was speaking about Tiger Woods a few years back and said "lynching" both my sister and I said we can go on fine without saying that word in a social setting---it's mainly used in a discussion panel over it's meaning and usage. However, it seems that Whites at times use that wording and don't grasp what it means to us even if it's used socially. When these idiots started talking about genetalia as further proof of his citizenship it was mind boggling. At this point it was like they wanted to dissect him and see if he human. It even takes a bit into their push during the primaries about him being able to hypnotise people. As though he's not a flesh and blood man. He's beyond that, or even when they refer to him as Christ like and this was just another manner to dehumanize him---is what I mean.
Just as they desecrate the body in lynchings to disrespect, sexualize and dehumanize the Black man or woman, these fools are propogating the same initiative in their words. And in actuality pushing the same exclusionary limitations we've seen in the pass the separate the "other" from the "norm". We've seen it in Germany with the Jews, in Dominican Republic with Haitians, in Russia with Gypsies and Jews and so on an so forth.
It's truly heartbreaking and annoying when I notice that many in DU either don't notice this and mock it. It should be recognized for what it is. It also shows the massive difference in the way Whites (or some Whites) see certain things and versus the Black experience and response to issues like this. I've noticed they can forget or not realize, I should say, the problem while we're facing it.
As a cross reference I remember when my friends parents (they're English) went to the north of England and her dad (who is White while mum is Black) was like saying how great it was and there was no racism. And then the wife and my friend (who looks leans more into her mum's side) both said they experienced horrible racism. He was even shocked because he didn't notice and was surpised by it all. It was interesting to say the least. Anyway that family was great to learn how interracial marriages work. In my family the White people considered themselves Black since they were all Haitian.
Anyway...just an observation and I realize I threw a lot of points out there--that's just how my mind works at times----apologies.

| 3. Alot of it is a lack of awareness |
|
The average white person in America has not heard constant tales of family members who were lynched the way many black families have. It's not personal to them, it's history. And history is something that many Americans have no interest in unless it directly involves them. So they mock instead of bothering to understand.
But to us, we KNOW the stories of black men hung from trees, beaten to death for even LOOKING in the general direction of a white woman or castrated because of the fear in this culture of black male sexuality. Black women raped and treated as concubines (on the serious, SERIOUS DL of course by the white men doing it). Fear of the Black **** has driven lots of white men and women insane over the centuries, most recently that gym shooter who killed those women because he said "black men get all of the good white women."
The idea that people want Obama to drop his pants to prove that he's an American citizen is absolutely revolting. Sick. Diseased. Makes you wonder when the obsession with black genitalia and black sexuality will end.

| 5. Probably never. I wonder what bell hooks would have to say about this. |
|
She's spoken out in the past on Black hypersexuality in American racism. However, it would be interesting to see her take on this new development in relation to the first Black President. The 21st Century really doesn't prove to be a big change from the past few centuries in respect to racism. It just seems to get more apologists.

The day that Freepers and their ilk are packed up and shipped the hell out of this country will be a joyous day indeed.
But I have to tell you, some of the comments in that thread (ie people saying they wanted to see Obama's junk too) from DUers made my flesh crawl so bad I actually shut my damn browser down after reading that thread. Ian's comments in the OP about the "long dark staff of white insecurity" was hilarious. He is too funny. :)
Obama is alot of things to me but a sex object ain't one of them. Not even close. I love the man, but the fact that so many people openly acknowledge wanting to see the peter of our 48 year old, skinny, jug-eared, married President just... well, I can't even finish that sentence.

| 6. I was raised Catholic and well...I abhor infedility. |
|
I tend to be mentally skewed by my Catholic upbringing in that thinking something is just as bad as committing the sin. And so fantasizing about someone in another relationship in any way (even playful) is breakig the 10th Commandment--do not covet thy neighbor's wife or husband and/or goods and property. So married men aren't and can't be fantasized about. Or men in a committed relationship. Needless to say I don't fantasize or want to see the body of any male in the public world. Just in case. ^_^

| 7. I hear ya and I respect that. My grounds for protest aren't even that noble |
|
I wish I could say it was based on some religious ideals but I'd be lying. There are lots of men I'm all too happy to lust over or fantasize about (please see my Superman thread). :)
Racial and historical references aside, I just think it's nasty to be openly saying that you want to see the errr...member of the President of the United States. I can live a long and happy life NEVER seeing any other part of Obama's entire body besides his face. Even seeing his clavicle is a bit much for me now...

| 9. Yep. Totally disgusting but not surprising in the least. Black |
|
people have always been a source of sexual curiosity and the adage, "once you go black, ain't no going back" certainly doesn't help. Unfortunately, such myths have been proudly perpetuated by AA males and that doesn't help, either. Denegration, has it's advantages if you're on the outside looking in, if you know what I mean and the rest is just wanting to test the waters.
