Hey folks.

I'm not entirely sure when my donation runs out (in February or March or so?) but as of now, I'm not the slightest bit convinced that I will re-donate to this site. Folks are running around here like rabid dogs. In the last two weeks, I've had dustups with two MAJOR, well-documented and sited assholes here on DU (yeah, I know. If you can keep count of your dustups, you're not having nearly enough) and even though I found both spats immensely satisfying, if I wanted to be treated like crap by complete strangers that I care absolutely nothing about, I'd become a telemarketer.

The only thing I'd regret about not donating would be losing access to AAIG. Anyone have any interest in starting to shift a little attention to the Race/Equality forum so that I can still talk to you guys? I know it's not the same as AAIG, our little corner of sanity amongst the deranged, but I'd hate to lose the conversations. Or what about The Lounge? Do any of you post there?? I posted there twice when I first joined and found it fairly ridiculous but I'd be willing to give it another shot.

The AAIG refuge is the main reason I donated in the first place. I was just thinking this a.m. about all of the members who were here when I first joined and don't post any longer. I miss seeing a great many of them. I would really miss not seeing you in AAIG.
Whenever I browse through GD or GDP, I always look to see if any of our folks have joined in the discussion just in case they need backup. We especially need a show of force during these times and if we abandon our group, it'll just shrivel up and fade away. We should always represent and stick together.

I hear you, I really do. But I'm starting to be as "Mad" as Angee and just forget about all this. Angee has always encouraged participation in the Afrosphere and there is no comparison to the level of intelligence, maturity and insight between what is posted "out there" and what's posted here -- even amongst black critics of Obama and this administration. This place doesn't hold a candle.

I was thinking about the folks that don't post anymore either. Haven't seen cydensco, ellacott, Morpheus, SemperEadem, Bronxboy, Political Tiger, Uzybone, and I don't know how many others post here in a very long time. Even in the main forums, folks are dropping like flies.

I joined because I am currently out of the country and don't come across very many Americans. I have two American friends here in Australia that I can talk politics with, and I thought this would be a great place to be able to discuss American politics with a wider group of people. I'm woman enough to admit that apparently I was wrong about that. I'm like you, the only reason I donate is because of AAIG but it's getting to the point that this oasis is not worth the sea of crap and crud that you have to wade through to get to it. So I was just wondering if anyone felt like setting up shop a bit in R/E. I know it won't be the same, but it's better than nothing, right???

That it the minimum $10 amount plus a $1 processing charge. This is what I cut my donation back to last year.

I really do it for access to the good search engine, more than anything else.

The thing that gets me is that what I'm posting is not violating a single rule, and yet "poof*. Yes, this forum is definitely being watched and has been for a long while now. I've gone a couple of rounds with a few closet racists there, too. Unfortunately, they are, like human stupidity, seem to be without limit. On the other hand, it may not be a bad idea--that's what it's there for.

So if you have any leads on any other great sites, I'm sure we'd all love to have them since I don't think she'll be around for at least a week or so to post them herself. I know that she and SemiCharmedQuark are also on Facebook.

We all know about Jack and Jill Politics and The Black Snob. I've also posted recently about Racialicious and just discovered Fresh Express (http://thefreshxpress.com/) when we all read that idiotic piece on Huffington Post comparing Obama to Tiger Woods. All of these seem to be great sites with a very, very wide and diverse perspective -- something that is lacking here.

Yeah, after reading Brewman say pretty much the same thing and getting more than a couple of PM's that reiterate that point, I think it's finally sunk in. :)

I'm just to the point where I'd rather spend my $10 in a more useful way. Maybe things will be different around here by February, March or whenever my donation runs out.

17. Two things:

I just remembered that Nat Burner (a smart, funny DU brother) posted before that he spends alot of time on Wonkette and it seems like I remember him saying that he does some writing for them (although I could be COMPLETELY wrong. This damn pregnancy brain plays serious tricks on you.) I'd forgotten about that because Nat is yet another person that I haven't seen post on DU in a very long time.

2) I've gotten a surprising number of PM's from people who don't post in this forum but read it and quietly support it. There are apparently a few more brown people on DU than I realized. :) Most of them don't post anymore and/or don't donate to the site (which is why they couldn't post in AAIG) because of the frustration that we're feeling now but it's been kind of a "I'd sure hate to see you all go but I COMPLETELY understand how you feel about this place" kind of thing. Keeping this new info in mind and heeding Brewman's words about how crazy R/E can get...????

I'm errr... QUITE pregnant?? :) I'm about 26 weeks along now, thanks for asking. A very kind friend of mine from Tasmania gushed at me a few days ago "Oh, I can't even tell you're pregnant!" Tell that to my aching back. Like I said, she's very kind.
