Lauterbach Suspect Hunted by InterpolUnited Press International | January 29, 2008
WASHINGTON - The Justice Department has set in motion an international search for a Marine wanted in the killing of a 20-year-old pregnant fellow Marine.
The Interpol-United States National Central Bureau has requested the issuance of an Interpol Red Notice seeking the location of Cpl. Cesar Armando Laurean-Ramirez, the department said Jan. 28.
The Red Notice is the formal wanted notice published by the Interpol General Secretariat. It contains information on the fugitive including the charges filed against him. The USNCB broadcast an international "All Points Bulletin" to law enforcement in 185 countries and the Interpol General Secretariat, located in Lyon, France.
Laurean-Ramirez is wanted for the first-degree murder Lance Cpl. Maria Lauterbach. Onslow County officials allege Laurean-Ramirez killed Lauterbach, then burned and buried her body before fleeing, reportedly to his native Mexico.
He reportedly told his wife that Lauterbach had cut her own throat during an argument, though investigators say the female Marine died of blunt force trauma to the head.
