Cutoff scores and sequence numbers compiled by the Army in mid-February authorize 4,460 active-duty promotions March 1 to the ranks of sergeant through sergeant major.

The monthly total is about 900 fewer than February but well above average for the past year.

There will be 3,660 promotions to the midgrade NCO ranks — 2,467 to sergeant, and 1,193 to staff sergeant.

The promotable soldiers will come from a pool of 17,647 eligible specialists and corporals, and 16,723 sergeants.

There would be more promotions to these ranks if more promotable soldiers in shortage specialties called STAR military occupational specialties were on the Army-wide sergeant and staff sergeant lists.
