WICHITA FALLS, Texas — An Indiana Air Force reservist stabbed to death at Sheppard Air Force Base was just three days shy of graduating from a training course when she was killed, officials said Saturday.
Senior Airman Blanca A. Luna was pronounced dead at a Wichita Falls hospital Friday morning shortly after she was found in her hotel room unresponsive with a stab wound, base spokesman George Woodward said.
Air Force officials continue investigating but no one has been arrested, Woodward said, declining to release other details about the case.
Luna was an Air Force Reserve member from the 434rd Civil Engineer Squadron at Grissom Air Reserve Base, Ind., and had been on temporary duty at Sheppard since September. She had been attending the heating, ventilation and air conditioning initial skills course with the 366th Training Squadron and was to graduate Monday, Woodward said.
The Air Force is prohibited from releasing her age or hometown, Woodward said. Her name was released Saturday afternoon, 24 hours after her family was notified, he said.
