Northrop sets groundbreaking for tanker complexPosted : Tuesday May 13, 2008 17:42:39 EDT
MOBILE, Ala. — Northrop Grumman has scheduled a June 28 groundbreaking for its proposed $600 million, 1,500-worker aircraft assembly plant at Mobile’s Brookley Field Industrial Complex.
The Press-Register reported on its Web site that Northrop and its chief subcontractor, EADS North America, said Tuesday that the ceremony was scheduled pending the outcome of the Government Accountability Office review of the Air Force’s refueling tanker contract. Los Angeles-based Northrop and EADS won the potential $40 billion deal Feb. 29 over Chicago-based Boeing.
Boeing is protesting the award before the GAO, which has a June 19 deadline to complete its review.
Northrop Grumman chairman Ronald Sugar said his company anticipates a favorable decision.
