2 soldiers arrested in sex assault case

EL PASO, Texas — Two Fort Bliss soldiers remained jailed Thursday in a sexual assault case involving a girl younger than 14.

Pfc. Adam Avenetti and Pfc. Mario Hunter, both 19-year-old soldiers from the 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, were turned over to local police Tuesday.

Avenetti faces charges of continuous sexual abuse of a child, indecency with a child and sexual performance by a child. He is being held at the El Paso County Jail on $130,000 bond.

Hunter is charged with aggravated sexual assault, possession or promotion of child pornography, indecency with a child and sexual performance by a child. Hunter is jailed in El Paso on $120,000 bond.

Jail records do not show if either man has a lawyer.
