A batch of September first class petty officer exams has gone missing at Naval Station Pearl Harbor, and Navy officials say they will be on the lookout for any mysterious spikes in test scores this fall.
A command investigation at Regional Service Center Pacific has failed to uncover 20 advancement exams that disappeared after they were delivered by Federal Express and signed for by a sailor in the command, said Naval Education and Training Command spokesman Ed Barker. Barker said the command will recommend the Naval Criminal Investigative Service take up the investigation.
The missing exams were for the construction electrician, interior communications electrician, information systems technician, mass communications specialist and storekeeper ratings and have been unaccounted for since late last month, Barker said.
No answer keys were included in the shipment, but sailors who got the tests ahead of time could prepare answers for all the questions.
Barker said 20 replacement exams — identical to the missing ones — had been ordered by the command, and said Navy officials would be alert for unexplained score spikes from second class petty officers in the affected ratings.
