Military: Fliers producing results in Afghanistan Stars and Stripes
Mideast edition, Wednesday, August 20, 2008
About 24,000 fliers passed out to Afghans, offering small monetary rewards for discovering weaponry, have yielded some positive results, U.S. military officials say.
The fliers also urge Afghans to stay hydrated and avoid touching landmines, and they advise Afghans what to do if they come across munitions.
Two children turned in a bomb in the Quargehay District in the Laghman province, east of Kabul, after the fliers were handed out, according to a news release issued by Combined Joint Task Force-101.
A couple of suicide vests and dozens of 107 mm rockets and rocket-propelled grenades were turned into Forward Operating Base Methar Lam in Laghman province, the release says.
