Houston Chronicle

A Brazos County grand jury has indicted a Marine accused of fatally stabbing a Rice University basketball player and injuring his twin during an April 2007 altercation outside a College Station bar.

The indictment handed up Thursday accuses Ronald Andrew Johnson Jr., 24, of murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the death of Jonathan Bailey. His brother, Janson Bailey, was injured.

The twins were celebrating their birthday with friends and relatives at the V Bar in the Northgate area of College Station the night of April 4, 2007. They began fighting with Johnson and a fellow Marine, Michael Fuller.

"It is one heck of a shame that he (Johnson) was in less danger defending our country in Iraq than in a College Station bar where he was attacked by a band of thugs," said Dan Cogdell, Johnson's attorney.

Cogdell said his client acted in self-defense.
