CHESAPEAKE, Va. — A retired sailor will spend 18 months behind bars for his role in a dogfighting operation.
Alfred C. Taylor Jr. of Chesapeake, a former shipyard worker, was sentenced Thursday to five years in prison, but a judge suspended all but 18 months and barred the 55-year-old from owning dogs while on probation.
Taylor was found guilty of dogfighting charges in December 2006, after police seized anti-inflammatory drugs, a surgical wound stapler and dogfighting literature from his home. They also removed 17 pit bulls, 10 of which had signs of healed wounds.
