NORFOLK, Va. — The crew of the attack submarine Albany returned home Tuesday on a bitter and windy afternoon, but to a warm welcome from fellow submariners and family waiting on the pier.
Albany left Norfolk on April 25. The sub spent part of the extended cruise with the Nassau Expeditionary Strike Group but also operated independently, including making a stop in Norway before transiting the Atlantic Ocean.
Cmdr. Thad Nisbett said the crew is happy to be back before the holidays.
“They did a great job. There were no problems at all on the deployment,” he said, noting that the ship was kept in great shape. “We never lost a deployment day due to a material issue.”
During the deployment, 11 enlisted crew members and four officers in the 149-member crew earned their dolphins.
