Vet serving time in assault on sleeping woman

LINCOLN, Neb. — A former National Guard soldier who was serving in Iraq will be going to prison for sexually assaulting a woman at a party.

Jacob Ford was home on 15-day leave when the woman was assaulted on Dec. 28 last year.

The 23-year-old woman testified that she awoke to find Ford assaulting her. Ford said he thought the sex was consensual. Both had been drinking.

On Thursday, a Lancaster County district judge gave Ford four to six years in prison.

Attorney John Berry said Friday that his client had been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder since his first Iraq tour ended in 2004.
