The Army’s homepage — www.army.mil — got a makeover in mid-January with a new look the Army is calling a “refresh” after more than two years with the same design.
The Army Web site gets about 4 million visitors a month and posts hundreds of videos each year.
The new site popped up at 6 p.m. Jan. 16 with much of the same content, but a completely different look.
Instead of a main picture in the center with smaller menus on either side, the site looks a little more like the front page of a mainstream newspaper with sections that offer a variety of new options.
The Army wants users to focus more on its visual content, especially streaming video that many users have complained was hard to maneuver in the past. New software improves the delivery of video content by tapping into a higher number of servers as well as servers strategically placed around the world for increased bandwidth.
