Pentagon officials have chosen
Navistar International, BAE Systems and Force Protection to produce 2,400 Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles, having winnowed the list of MRAP I bidders from at least five firms.
These new contracts — which bring the total of MRAPs on order to 8,800 — will be followed by an additional 6,500 MRAPs in December, according to Pentagon officials. To finance this next purchase, the DoD will ask Congress for an additional $8 billion, these officials added.
“The Defense Department is working with the White House to formally request those funds, which should go over in the form of a budget amendment,” a senior DoD official told reporters during a Pentagon briefing Oct. 18.
Last month, the Joint Requirements Oversight Council (JROC) approved the purchase of a total of 15,374 vehicles worth $11.5 billion.

Gates also said MRAPs are now airlifted to Iraq, but some future vehicles will be transported by sea.Rest of article at:

Navistar is selling MRAPs for about 1/2 price.
Force Protection is selling MRAPs for about 68% of the cost.
BAE is selling MRAPs for about 70% of the cost.
And don't forget the U.S. Special Operations Command's MRAPs at a discount price of 50%.
Can anyone spell cost overrun on the way?
