Navy bases on Guam tighten gate ID policy

All people entering Navy bases on Guam must now show military identification or carry a valid guest pass, according to a new policy begun this week by Commander U.S. Naval Forces Marianas.

The change is part of an overall effort to better align base policies among Navy and Air Force installations on the island, according to Navy spokesman Lt. Donnell Evans.

Previously, the Navy required all vehicles coming onto base to have a military identification decal and that the driver have a military identification card. Passengers in the vehicle, however, were not required to have a specific military ID or sign-in as a visitor.

Now, all visitors to Navy facilities must be signed in and receive a guest pass before entering the bases, Evans said. To obtain the guest pass, visitors must show a valid government ID such as a passport or driver’s license.

During the day, visitors may obtain a guest pass at the Pass and ID office just outside the gates. After hours, they may obtain passes at the gate, Evans said.
