Conservation of Energy: The Key to Magickal Potency (WitchVox)

Last June, I wrote an article discussing the three basic components of magickal operation (The Mechanism of Magickal Energy), those being intent, focus, and energy. This month I want to discuss the unheralded “secret” of spiritual awareness, which is also the key to magical potency. This, simply put, is the individual conservation of personal energy.

If you take a few moments to think about it, conservation of energy is one of the goals of every balanced spiritual path on the planet. You can even sense it in the terminology we use to describe the phenomenon. When we say someone “got religion” what we are really saying is that the person quit doing what they had habitually been doing, and have begun to act according to a new, adopted doctrine. This process of shifting their lifestyle or point-of-view enables them to free up enormous amounts of personal energy they were using to hold the old life in place. Their conserved energy is immediately evident in their enthusiasm and zealotry. This also happens when people fall in love. The shift in perspective is so profound that they “seem all aglow”.

Ok, so the town Casanova becoming a Baptist or falling in love doesn’t have anything to do with us making our magick more potent, but we can employ those same mechanics to achieve our magickal ends and empower our practice.
