| The Shechinah -- this is something old i just found out about. |
|
The Shechinah is defined, in traditional Jewish writings, as the "female aspect of God" or the "presence" of the infinite God in the world. She is introduced in the early rabbinical commentaries as the "immanence" or "indwelling" of the living God, whose role as the animating life force of the earth is to balance the transcendent deity.
I'm amazed by the threads of common belief that runs through old religions but is no longer considered or celebrated.

| 1. There are probably more who celebrate the old ways than you might think. |
|
Most people who aren't in mainstream religions don't have the luxury of being very open about it. The Church did a very good job of erasing the Goddess and so pagans are viewed as kooks or cultists.
My parents were agnostic and thought I had lost my mind when I became a Missouri Synod Lutheran in my 20s. Kookiness is in the eye of the beholder! :silly:

| 2. You might enjoy reading "The Hebrew Goddess" by Raphael Patai. Also, Jewish feminists have been... |

... doing some brilliant work on reclaiming the Shekhinah for years.
She is the Sabbath Bride. In the days of the Temple in Jerusalem, Adonai and Shekhinah dwelled in unison in the uttermost interior of the Temple -- i.e. a sexual yet spiritual union. It was said that after the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem, God withdrew to the heavens but the Shekhinah went into exile with the people.

| 3. For many centuries there has been a "war" on against the feminine aspects of the universe... |
|
by the patriarchal religions. They have murdered hundreds of thousands if not millions of women over the many centuries as well in order to suppress the feminine aspect of Godhood..which is, of course...the Goddess. Unfortunately for them...The Goddess is now awake again and magic is afoot!
