| Question about tarot readings |
|
My friend won't do one on me or any of our friends because she believe her energy would influence our readings which I can understand and respect that. My problem is that I have gone to 2 different readers and both of them where conning me. I just got the feeling they looked at me and said Pigon. Is there anyway I can get a good reading without getting taken?
I also read one should not read their own tarot.
thank you

If you could tell you were being suckered by the other readers, then use that 'sense' to seek out a good reader. It may take awhile, but you can do it. You also don't need to fork out money, just have a brief conversation with that person and check your feelings.
As for not reading for yourself, you can if you want. However, we often see what we want when we read for ourselves. I do some readings for myself using my first deck. I do not read anyone else with that deck! I also get "pops" from the deck if I try to misinterpret the reading. It is why I trust that deck and myself, when using it.
I would offer to do one for you (because I LOVE your user name), but when I read, I do not like to know the question. I have started reading a new way. I have the person write the question on an index card, and fold it over, sign it, and personalize it (usually with a fingerprint), then I shuffle. I read from the top and from where the index card ends up in the deck. So, they get two readings. I have done this twice and both times the readings had corresponding cards to one another. So, I think I may be on to something...I get performance anxiety, so I like to read when alone.
Do not give up. Worse comes to worse...think your question, do a spread...and let another read it for you!
Brightest Blessings!

| 3. I have them write the question down too. |

I started doing that when I realized it helps people focus a lot more on the question at hand. If something is coming up in the reading that maybe doesn't immediately make sense to them ("I asked about my love life and you are telling me about my job..." is an example) I'll take the last card in the spread and do a second reading with it as the significator. Call it a clarification spread, if you like.
Frankly, I really have never been terribly comfortable with charging anybody for a reading and I really do not like reading for anyone I know terribly well. I always worry that I am injecting too much opinion in a reading for a buddy, and I never want anybody to feel I ripped them off. (If you want to hear a real horror story ask me about the ONE time I agreed to do readings at a psychic fair!)
The barter system seems to be my level of comfort. If they are happy with the reading they can do something for me like mow my yard or some other service. The added advantage is that its after the fact and they can decline to do anything if they feel I did less than my best for them in that reading. I used to trade chiropractic care for readings, in fact. We had that arrangement up to the time she retired...

Very cool. I might think about that because I'm not comfortable taking money for readings, but at the same time, it can be a little draining and time consuming, so if I don't get anything in return, sometimes I feel like I cheated myself!
Oh, do tell your story!
I have a horror story of my own. A casual aquantaince of mine wanted me to do a reading for her. In fact, she insisted. She thought her husband was cheating on her and from the cards, there was TONS of deception. I was very careful to tell her that it didn't neccessarily mean he was cheating -- he might have been thinking about it, tempted, or the cards could be wrong, whatever. It's not all set in stone. Anyway, it turns out he was. However, she started going around telling all the people who knew me that it was all my fault that her husband was cheating because I put that idea in her head and that's what drove him to it. Too bad he had been cheating long before the card reading. I didn't even want most of these people to know that I do tarot readings, so it was just a mess. Bleck!

| 4. I always had people think of their question while I was doing a spread |
|
and blank my mind out or concentrated on something else
I like to have a candle going when I do a reading or something else I can focus on

It is hard to read for yourself or someone you are close to, because sometimes the cards are harsh! :) But, I have gotten where I can be honest with myself. I'm still not too good at being brutally honest with my friends. For example, I did a reading for my sister a year ago about this guy she was interested in and I refused to interpret the fact that a woman close to her was lying to her about this guy. Well, it turns out that her roomie and the guy were seeing each other and the roomie was afraid to tell my sister because she knew she liked the guy ... Ugh. I knew that -- I had written down my impressions right after the reading and kept it and it's all right there. I just didn't want to see it and didn't have the nerve to tell her ... whatever.
So, for me, it's harder to do a clear reading for a friend/loved one than it is for me to read for myself. It's just a thing. :)
But, it sounds like you've got good instincts for readers, so I'm sure you'll be able to find someone. When you find one who clicks with you, I think you'll know it right away.
